daily tulasi pooja with slokas

Significance of Tulasi:

“Every home with a Tulasi plant is a place of pilgrimage, and no diseases, messengers of Yama, the God of Death, can enter it.”
Skandapurana Padmapurana Uttarakhanda

tulanaa naasti athaiva Tulsi (Meaning: The one which is incomparable (in its qualities) is the Tulsi)

Srimad-Bhagavatam explains the special position of the Tulasi plant:

“Although flowering plants like the mandara, kunda, kurabaka, utpala, campaka, arna, punnaga, nagakesara, bakula, lily, and parijata are full of transcendental fragrance, they are still conscious of the austerities performed by Tulasi, for Tulasi is given special preference by the Lord, who garlands Himself with Tulasi leaves.”

Tulasi is the essence of all devotional activities. The leaves, flowers, roots, bark, branches, trunk, and shade of Tulasi-devi are all spiritual.

A house where Tulasi-devi is present never falls on bad times, and it becomes purer than all holy places. The fragrance of Tulasi-devi purifies all who smell it.

One who sees or comes near a house or garden where the Tulasi plant is present gets rid of all his sinful reactions, including that of killing a brahmana.
Lord Krsna happily lives in the house, town, or forest where Tulasi-devi is present.

A recent research indicates that Tulsi reduces inflammation, prevents gastric ulcers, protects against radiation, lowers fevers, cholesterol and high blood presssure, enhances periodontal health, displays significant natural antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal activity, improves digestion and absorption of other nutrients, and even repels mosquitoes and other potentially harmful insects.

When picking Tulasi leaves, chant the following mantra:

tulasy amrta janmasi
sada tvam kesava-priya
kesavartham cinomi tvam
varada bhava sobhane

Meaning – “O Tulasi, you were born from nectar. You are always very dear to Lord Kesava. Now, in order to worship Lord Kesava, I am collecting your leaves and manjaris. Please bestow your benediction on me.”

As per our philosophy, only men are allowed to pick tulasi leaves before starting devara pooja

How to pick Tulasi leaves:

  1. Pick the leaves one at a time with your fingertips.
  2. Pick with care and attention. Avoid using cutting tools.
  3. Pick Tulasi leaves and flowers in the morning, never at night (from sunset to sunrise)
  4. Tulasi should not be plucked on dvadasi.
  5. One should pluck the leaves with the right hand, holding the branch in the left hand, being careful not to break the branches.

According to the Garuda Purana, Tulasi must always be offered on the naivedyam.

tulasi vina ya kriyate na puja
snanam na tat yat tulasi vinakrtam
bhuktam na tat yat tulasi vinakrtam
pitam na tat yat tulasi vinakrtam

Puja, bathing and offering of food and drink performed without Tulasi cannot be considered as puja, bathing and offering to the Lord. The Lord does not accept anything or drink anything that is without Tulasi.

An idea is to write or print this sloka and stick near Gas stove. This wont take even 5 minutes to read every day. By lyrics we can understand The cooked items are given as neivedhyam to Lord sri Lakshmi Narayana. In today’s worlds nothing is pure. vegetables, fruits and all groceries are adulterated, with lot of chemicals. By chanting such slokas, I believe God will protect our body from any sort of diseases or infections that is being caused by poor quality of ingredients we are using.

In additon we can understand the Tharathamya (most important of Madhwa philosophy) Sri hari followed by Mahalakshmi(hrudayadhali nelasevarige) vaayu, Brahma, followed by saraswathy, bharathy(vaayu’s wife) followed by Garuda, sesha, rudra(siva). This hierarchy is the most important of Madhwa philosophy. One should always worship God in this hierarchy only. Hari is always supreme(Hari Sarvothama)

Lakshmi Shobhane(Shobhana vennire!!!)

Once, Sri Vaadiraajaru during His desa sanchaara reached a village where the local landlord was conducting the wedding of his daughter. During the course of the marriage rituals an unexpected incident happened; suddenly the bridegroom died due to a snake bite. The Landlord knowing the arrival of Sri Vaadiraajaru in the town approached Him and prayed Him to retrieve his daughter’s Maangalya Bhaagya that was lost before her wedding itself.

source: Google

Sri Vaadiraajaru showed pity on the landlord and he immediately composed song in Kannada language ‘Sri Lakshmi Shobane’ comprising 112 verses describing Goddess Lakshmi’s marriage to Lord Sri Hari when she emerged out from Ksheera Saagara (ocean of milk) and this action of Sri Vaadiraajaru brought back the life of the bridegroom and the wedding took place. This song is composed by vadirajaru the way he dreamt of sri mahalakshmi everyday.

Indu svapnadalli kondadisikonda lakShmI-

Shobana means mangala or auspiciousness. Goddess Lakshmi is Sarva Mangala; who is not only the Goddess of wealth but, She is all powerful who is also capable of blessing us with gooD health and life. That was the power in the lines of Sri Vaadiraajaru and Goddess Lakshmi was obliged to revive the bridegroom.

The powerful Lakshmi Shobana is highly meritorious and enhances the marriage prospects for the unmarried and bestow upon the unmarried girls the fortune of a good husband with long and happy married life. It is also believed to bring in peace, prosperity and auspiciousness at the home/place where it is recited and listened.

Sloka to recite early morning in bed

Wake up everyday with a positive thought. Morning gives positive energy. It is the best time of the day to start your prayer.

This shloka is to be recited in the morning. when you get up, just sit in the bed and Relax. Chant this shloka with eyes still closed, and open them by the fourth part (ma~NgalaM karadarshanam) and see your hands and smile.

This exercise is so good, that it helps you stabilize your blood pressure. After lying down for 6-7 hours and if you suddenly get up for alarm or some sound, there can be a pressure drop in the brain and this is known to be the most important factor in early morning strokes. Both shlokas when recited slowly will take about 1-2 minutes which is sufficient for  your brain to get used to new blood pressure.

He was so saddened as he was not able to visit Goddess as before. One day on his dreams, He got a strange dream. He heard the voice saying “I will come to see you in Navarathri”. Next day while srinivas acharya was performing his daily duties, He was recollecting the dream and was stunned on the words “I will come to see you in Navarathri”. Days passed by. Navarathri came. Srinivas acharya was grinding chandan.

The  smooth grinding stone was hard at places. he did not pay too much attention but continued the grinding process to collect more chandan. Further  he noticed that the roughness was becoming more and more. He took the chandan in a bowl and cleaned the stone. To his surprise He saw  smiling face of goddess mahalaxmi was looking at him. The carved form of Goddess has actually caused roughness. Tears of joy filled his eyes. Kallur then attained the status of Karveerpura(Kolhapur). Goddess Mahalakshmi resides there. An year latter Venkateshwara swamy idol was found and installed along with Mahalakshmi

Yantrodharaka Hanuman Stothram

Significance:

Sri Vyasarajathirtharu [Vyasarayaru]  used to meditate everyday on the banks of River Tungabhadra. One day, while he was meditating He visualized an Image of Lord Hanuman. This happened only at that particular place and nowhere else. So next time, he drew that image of Hanumaan on a rock. To his surprise, a monkey came to life from the rock and jumped out of the rock and his drawing disappeared. This happened 12 times. Every time a monkey would come alive, jump out and his drawing would disappear. Finally he drew a Yantra around the picture so that the monkey will not go out of the rock. Please see the featured Image.  He bound the Lord Hanumaan inside the Yantra. Here the Lord Hanumaan is in sitting position inside the Yantra. This is the place where he wrote the famous Yanthroddharaka Hanuman sthothram.

Location:

This temple is located at Hampi, Karnataka. Just behind the Kodandarama Temple you can spot this shrine on top of the small hill.
